Dr. Julie Hendricks has been caring for patients for more than three decades. She earned an Associate of Science in Optometric Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Vision Sciences from Indiana University before earning her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1990. Her training included externships at Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas, a contact lens research clinic in Bloomington, Indiana, and the IU Low Vision Clinic in Indianapolis.
Dr. Hendricks provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages and has a particular interest in the medical management of ocular surface disease, including dry eye, as well as glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. She also enjoys geriatric eye care, myopia management for children, and helping patients manage the eye-related effects of increasing screen time, including dry eye, eyestrain, and visual fatigue.
Her interest in optometry began from her own experiences as a patient. After being prescribed glasses and vision therapy at just two years old, she developed a natural interest in eye care throughout her childhood. Today, one of her favorite parts of being an optometrist is getting to know her patients and helping improve their quality of life through better vision and eye health.
Patient education is central to Dr. Hendricks’ approach to care. She believes that taking the time to explain eye conditions and treatment options helps patients make informed decisions, improves their ability to follow treatment recommendations, and allows them to take an active role in their own eye health.
Originally from Evansville, Indiana, Dr. Hendricks moved to Illinois to join a group optometry practice in Taylorville. She is the proud mother of two daughters. Haley is a caseworker in Elder Services at the Montgomery County Health Department, while Hannah works for a technology company and lives in New York.
Outside of the office, Dr. Hendricks enjoys cooking and baking, traveling, attending concerts of all kinds, and reading whenever time allows. An avid animal lover, she and her family also enjoy supporting local animal shelters whenever possible.
